Phyllis Laing

President and Producer

President Phyllis Laing established Buffalo Gal Pictures in 1994, using her keen sense of business, creative vision and knowledge of the film industry to steadily drive the company toward its present success.

Phyllis produced the celebrated feature-length documentary My Winnipeg (2007), written and directed by Guy Maddin. The film had its World Premiere at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival where it received the Toronto-City Award for Best Canadian Picture, screened at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival and was the Opening Night Selection of the 2008 Berlin Film Festival's Forum. Phyllis also executive produced Season 1 of the critically acclaimed television series Less Than Kind, which premiered on Citytv in October 2008.

Phyllis' business acumen has twice been honoured by the Women's Business Owners of Manitoba. She received the Women Entrepreneur of the Year award in 1994 and the Impact on Local Economy award in 2002. Phyllis is currently the Vice President (Policy) on the On Screen Manitoba (formerly the Manitoba Motion Picture Industry Association) Board of Directors and she is a member of the Gimli Film Festival Board of Directors.

Mentorship in both creative and technical development is also a key element for the vision of Kistikan Pictures.
